Are you Beyond Temptation?

We submitted a proposal to our publisher last week for our new book. The working title is: Beyond Temptation - How to stop treating yourself, picking all day, indulging, overdoing it, giving in, sneaking food, constant  eating, emotional eating and generally eating too much.  A bit long you might think… mmmm… maybe, we’re working on it!

It’s almost six years since we wrote Beyond Chocolate and we haven’t stopped exploring and experimenting for a minute. The Chocolate Fairies have not sat still, happy in the knowledge that we’d cracked it! The 10 principles in our first book are the basis of a healthy and balanced relationship with food and as we say in the book, we didn’t invent them (well, maybe the ‘be your own guru’ one is unique to BC) we simply took age-old, common sense ideas and made them accessible. And since then we’ve been looking at overeating in a lot more depth, we questioned and investigated. We’ve watched all our wonderful participants grappling and experimenting and out of their work and ours has emerged a process, a way of engaging with the part of us that is driven to overeat, the part of us that turns to food for comfort, or sweetness or distraction or just because it’s there, the part of us that falls into the trap over and over again, despite our very best intentions, despite everything we know... out of all that we have created a process which is not only unique and effective but which teaches us so much about ourselves and our overeating that we believe it enriches every part if our lives. That's been our experience...

We have been diving into the subject of overeating day after day, we have put it under the microscope and observed it, we’ve worked with it and we’ve carried out experiments (on ourselves!). We know more about overeating than we could ever have imagined was possible to know - and we’ve poured all of that knowledge and understanding into our new book.

And those of you who have worked with us either online or on a workshop are all in it too… not personally (no names or recognisable characters, promise!) but your stories are woven into it, we have created a set of fictional characters who tell the story of women’s overeating and who show us how we can gently, kindly, compassionately and definitively stop. We can’t wait to see it in print. We just can’t wait!

  6. I'm looking forward to this - I've been trying to incorporate IE principles for ages and I'm not doing so well at the "eat when you're hungry, stop when you're full part". I've never been a dieter, but I had a lightbulb moment the other day when I realised that it's because to me, those guidelines feel like dieting, and require willpower... which makes me want to rebel.

  7. Would love to see a new book. I seem to have taken eat what ever you want far too literally wihtout taking the other principles into account. As someone told me the other day, you still have to eat less calories to loose weight and thinking about why its so hard to feel like you're going without might be a useful exercise. Immeditately made me think about the exercise where you try not eating for a minute and then another and then another.

  9. Thanks all for your comments. We don't have a date for publication yet - it's likely to be Sept 2011 or Jan 2012 - so not quite yet. However... the new Overeating Ecourse we are launching on January 3rd (which you'll find details of on the website) is based on the book - or is the other way round??? The book we'll be publishing is based on the book we are writing. So the ecourse is the practical, action and information based part of the book. The book will be very similar content to the ecourse PLUS more. Hope that makes sense!!

  10. Really looking forward to it!!!
I think I wouldn't have given to much away on the cover though. Maybe just.. "BEYOND TEMPTATION, How to stop....." and maybe put all the other things on the back cover??That way more people may pick it up out of curiosity. Just a thought, anyway If its half as good as the first book it'll be fab!!!

  11. Here's a really picky comment: "Treating Yourself" is currently in the spotlight on the cover. As treating yourself can really easily be applied to a lot of rather life-enhancing activities as well as eating, it would be a shame to stop it. Just a thought.

  12. Good point, Josie .... also I'm sure Beyond Chocolate wouldn't want us to stop treating ourselves, not really, would you?

  13. I treat myself all the time: to naps, to walks along the canal, to a long Skype chat with a mate I haven't seen for ages, to reading my favourite blogs for half an hour, to a cookery book I've been dying to own. I rarely 'treat myself' to food though. I make sure I eat delicious food I love, made with the best ingredients I can find and I eat it mostly when I am hungry so that it tastes even better. That's not treating myself because it's not something special or extraordinary, it's the norm.
